Effect of Fertilization on Seed Production in Zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica Steud .)

Abstract
This study was performed to establish a fertilization program to increase seed productivity in Zoysiagrass(Zoysia japonica Steud.). In 1982, nitrogen fertilizer was supplied at 0, 10, 20 and 30g/§³ with phosporous arid potassium fertilizers at 0 and 6g/§³, In 1983, nitrogen fertilizer was supplied at 0, 20, 40 and 80g/§³ with phosphorous and potassium fertilizers at 0, 20 and 40g/§³. The data were collected in 1983 and 1984.
1. Number of harvested seeds and seed weight from the plots treated with nitrogen fertilizer were increased by two times or more than those of the control plots. Significant effects were not observed from the phosphorus arid potassiun treatments.
2. Number of spikes and number of seeds per spike were positively correlated with the amount of nitrogen applied but not with phosphorous and potassium.
3. Vegetative growth, dry weight of shoots and roots, number of shoots and leaves, leaf length, arid leaf width showed a positive correlation with nitrogen fertilization. But phosphorous and potassium treatment resulted in decreased length of rhizome and number of leaves.
4. Fertilization of phosphorous and potassium did riot cause a significant increase in seed production of Zoysiagrass.
